On February 2nd, the ASU Energy Club partnered with Arizona Town Hall, bringing an ASU energy-concerned student presence to their “Arizona’s Energy Future” road show as part of their inaugural town hall event. Stemming from the Youth Town Hall discussion on October 12th, which was open to all college and high school students across the state, this event was created to further address student concerns and provide them with an outlet to express their opinions on the future of energy in Arizona.

On November 15 the Dean of the School of Sustainability, Sander van der Leeuw, spoke at the Tempe Center for the Arts about complex systems theory on the role of sustainability and innovation in societies as part of the distinguished Wrigley Lecture Series. The lecture focused on the evolution of human minds and how people have historically worked together to improve societies through the role of invention and innovation.

Pop quiz question—how much of the earth’s surface is covered in water? The answer is 70%. Although that is a big number, less than 1 percent of that water is actually suitable for human use and consumption. The majority of the water on Earth is full of salt or permanently frozen in glaciers. With large scale usage of clean water for farming, drinking, and washing, the concern of water scarcity and drought comes to mind.
